WINE SPECTATOR - 92 points

New reviews of Sangiovese based red values.
Chianti Classico is perhaps the best source of value in the world today. Though 2022 was hot and dry during the summer, the wines have freshness.
This red is all about the vibrant personality, laying the foundation for cherry and blackberry fruit, while earth, Tuscan scrub and mineral notes add depth. Tannic, yet with all of its components in the right places. Shows fine balance and length. Best from 2027 through 2040.
Conclusion: Outstanding, a wine of superior character and style.
VINOUS - 91pts
July 2025 by Antonio Galloni - vinous.com
The 2022 Chianti Classico Riserva Agostino Petri is packed with blue/purplish fruit, lavender, spice, menthol and dried herbs. This virile, powerhouse Riserva offers tons of impact. All it needs is a bit of time in bottle to help the tannins soften. The blend is 90% Sangiovese and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, with the Cabernet very clearly felt.
Drinking Window: 2025 - 2034
Conclusion: Outstanding, a wine of remarkable personality and breed, well worth seeking out.
WINE ENTHUSIAST - 92pts
July 2025 by Danielle Callegari - wineenthusiast.com
The Chianti Classicos of this generation are in formidable fighting shape for long-term cellaring ready to run the marathon at the sprint pace they set from the starting line.
Castello Vicchiomaggio Riserva Petri 2022: the nose has the friendly crispness of new leather, on the palate spices and warm citrus balance a mix of berries.
Conclusion: Excellent, highly recommended.

Intense wine focused on kiwi peel, leafy lightness and citrus leaves, together with red cherries and raspberries. Light- to medium-bodied, it shows crisp if not zesty acidity, with well-extracted and ripe tannins. Slightly chalkier on the savory, licorice finish, yet good. Drink or hold.
Conclusion: Excellent wine
Product Notes
Sangiovese plus small percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon.
Cabernet matured in barrique (225 LT), Sangiovese in 25 hl and 50 hl French oak barrels.
Full on the palate, well structured, powerful with a long finish. Complex bouquet. Tannins are refined, soft and smooth. The wine can be enjoyed when released but will mature well for many years.
